The Dermatologic Surgery Core Team, in cooperation with the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRRMMC) Department of Dermatology and the Skin Research Foundation of the Philippines held its 13th Annual Basic Dermatologic Surgery Course and Workshop entitled “The Final Closure: Dermatologic Surgery Tricks and Treats” on December 7, 2019 at the Unilab Bayanihan Center Annex, Mandaluyong.
The event was formally opened by the Chairperson of the JRRMMC Department of the Dermatology – Dr. Ma. Flordeliz Abad-Casintahan and was hosted by Dr. Ma. Criscelda Rescober-Valencia. It was well attended with 56 delegates.
The morning session offered series of relevant, substantial and comprehensive topics that would equip its participants with the knowledge and skills essential to the diagnosis and treatment of various dermatologic diseases. Different expert speakers in the field of Dermatology, Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Plastics, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery were invited to ensure a multidisciplinary approach in the discussion of the lectures. The lectures were as follows: Surgical Anatomy of the Face & Neck, Pre-operative Assessment, Instrumentation & Materials, Antibiotic Prophylaxis, Asepsis & Antisepsis Techniques, Topical Anesthesia, Local & Regional Blocks, Wound Healing, Hemostasis & Post-operative Management and Nail Surgery.
In the afternoon, the delegates were given a hands-on workshop on different suturing techniques. The session was facilitated by Dr. Zharlah Gulmatico-Flores and Dr. Ma. Criscelda Rescober-Valencia who gave live demonstration on suturing techniques. The members of the Dermatologic Surgery Core Team also supervised in the event. Correct practices, indications and the advantages & disadvantages of each technique were also tackled. The enthusiasm of the delegates ultimate showed their dedication to become better and competent physicians.
