Parasols, cherry blossoms, and opulent garments paraded the halls as the JRRMMC Department of Dermatology held its Graduation Rites and Christmas Party last December 19, 2018, with the theme 'Oriental Opulence.'

The night was devoted to celebrate the seniors residents' commitment and invaluable service to both the department and their patients. To the graduating physicians namely   Dr. Katherine Joy Sayo-Aguiling, Dr. Janelle G. Go, Dr. Ma. Christina B. Gulfan, Dr. Jasmine Malla, Dr. Riza R. Milante, Dr. Mark Gerald R. Serrano, Dr. Abhishek Singh and our Dermatopathology Fellow, Dr. Margaret Mary B. Alegre, congratulations! Over the years, they have undoubtedly grown in this noble calling and have imbibed the core values of integrity, competence and professionalism. It is the hope of the institution that they will carry with them their fervent dedication, passion and excellence as they further their growth well beyond the halls of the hospital.

The night also served as an opportunity to celebrate, share laughs and unwind as we gather as a family. Games, songs and dance presentations and a festive Christmas dinner was enjoyed by all. Truly, there was an air of fun and cheer throughout the evening. Everyone was dressed to impress with their Crazy Rich Asians inspired outfit.

It was a platform to reminisce on good times and remain hopeful of what is ahead. What may be bittersweet end to one chapter may merely be the first steps to a bigger adventure.

"Bloom where you are planted."

The Skin Research Foundation of the Philippines, Inc., in cooperation with the Philippine Dermatologic Society and Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center Department of Dermatology, marked the start of the yuletide season of giving by visiting the Haven for Women in Alabang, Muntinlupa last November 10, 2018 via the gift of charity.

The Haven of Women provides temporary shelter and protective custody to women 18-59 years old who are victims of various forms of abuse.

With the leadership of our beloved Chairman, Dr. Ma. Flordeliz Abad-Casintahan, we saw and treated 180 patients with various skin diseases. We also performed various dermatologic surgical procedures totaling to 26 operations such as electrocautery of common warts.

R.S. Grey once said: "She believed she can, so she did."

The Haven for Women is an establishment that seeks to empower women whose spirits have been damaged by various forms of abuse such as domestic violence. Women are the flowers of society - where flowers bloom, so does hope. We hoped that by our simple act of generosity, we hope that the flowers who reside in the Haven will push through the dirt and once again bathe in sunlight.

"The best classroom in the world is at the feet of our elders."

The Skin Research Foundation of the Philippines Inc., in cooperation with the JRRMMC Department of Dermatology headed by our beloved chairman Dr. Flordeliz Abad-Casintahan and the JRRMMC Senior Citizen Committee, conducted the Senior Citizen Wellness Lecture entitled "Skin Ko, Alagang Derma" Senior Citizen Edition .

The program was kicked off by a welcome message delivered by the Department of Dermatology's Chief Resident Dr. Janelle Go followed by the opening remarks delivered by the head of the Senior Citizen committee of JRRMMC, Dr. Emelita Umali. A wellness lecture entitled "Basic Skin Care" was then delivered by first year resident Dr. Reuben Manuel followed by a lecture entitled "Photoprotection" by first year resident Dr. Mark Casintahan. Prizes and freebies were given to those who listened attentively and were able to answer the questions after the lecture.
The lectures were followed by the distribution of loot bags composed of a skin care kit, snacks, and free consultation with the residents.

We hoped we have imparted knowledge on basic skin care to our well-loved senior citizens employees and patients, and we are honored to have been in your presence. We learned a lot from your insights and stories, and we are happy to have extended an assisting and caring hand to you all.

June 2018 : Postgraduate Course - Complexe Cutis

Integrity, Competence and Professionalism. These are the core values that JRRMMC Dermatology aims to epitomize.

In line with the core value of competence, the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center Department of Dermatology, in cooperation with the Skin Research Foundation of the Philippines, held its 16th Postgraduate Course entitled Complexe Cutis: Finding Simplicity Amidst Complexities in Skin Science .

The skin is a complex organ system. It is dynamic and ever-changing. Because of this, there are always a myriad of innovations and breakthroughs in the field of Dermatology, and often, it could be quite overwhelming for those practicing in the field.

We chose the title “Complexe cutis - finding simplicity amidst complexities in skin science” to address this problem.

The goal of this postgraduate course is to simplify matters - to make complex topics and ideas accessible and comprehensible to everyone.

Medicine is an ever changing and dynamic field. The latest international guidelines and standards of care must always be reviewed and applied in practice. We hoped that the participants of this event left the halls as better dermatologists, equipped with more knowledge, diligence, and compassion.

And most importantly, we hope that the participants were also reminded of the Hippocratic oath that they took as they become physicians – to treat the patient as a human being and not merely the disease
